San Antonio Missions – Texas

Before we went to Hawaii, we visited Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park.  We got to see the inside of his boyhood home, as well as look at displays about this president’s life.  An interesting fact about him is that he was the first president to be born in a hospital.

On December 11, we stayed in a Walmart parking lot (in Pleasanton, Texas) and went to the San Antonio Missions.

The San Antonio Missions are preserved ruins of missions, built around the late 1600’s by Spain to step up its colonization.  The missions were Catholic.  They strove to teach the Native Americans about God, but life in the missions was more than that.  There was community, farming, and ranching.  We went to Mission Concepción, Mission San José, Mission Espada, and Mission San Juan.
